We'll we've left Memphis and now on the home stretch. The next four days is travelling back to Houston and we fly home Sunday evening. With the 14 hour flight and 17 hour time difference, we'll lose a day and land back in New Zealand on the Tuesday.
For my last day in Memphis a did another tour around the Graceland exhibits and stores while Dave and Kahn went to the National Civil Rights Museum and location of Martin Luther King's assassination.
I ensured we caped off our time in Memphis with dinner at Marlowe's, the best BBQ in Memphis (some say the States) and of course their peanut butter and banana grilled sandwich. Marlowe's has a store inside, the E.P. Blvd. Pawn Shop, with a grand collection of Elvis memorabilia, collected from around the country. The owner, Jon Daily, travels the country to purchase Elvis material to sell in his store. We also had to ensure we went to and from the restaurant in their pink limo!!
The 6 hour drive to Houston included two stops, one in Little Rock, Arkansas and the other in Texarkana. Texarkana is a town the sits across the Texas and Arkansas state line (hence it's name) with city is split into two parts: Texarkana, Texas, and Texarkana, Arkansas, with State Line Avenue running through the middle of town. The state line runs right through the middle of the US Postal Building. Great little stop to see something different, although we didn't stay out of the car long, it was 35 degrees celsius!
We'll be spending 1 night in Marshall to break up our travel before two final nights in Houston, then homeward bound.
